One of the artist's favourite views in the city, this is a scene looking down the quiet of Fitzwilliam Street, across Trumpington Street to the wing of the entrance to the Fitzwilliam Museum. George Basevi designed and built the museum from 1837-41 drawing on his passion for classical Roman architecture in Italy. The museum is named for Richard, 7th Viscount Fitzwilliam of Merrion, after he bequeathed his entire collection of works of art and library to the university.
